Description:

Scribus is an open source page layout applications with many professional features including very high quality PDF, EPS, SVG import and export and CMYK color support. Scribus supports ICC color management, creates CMYK separations and interactive PDF's with form fields, scripting and presentation effects. Scribus has a powerful Python plug-in extending its abilities. Scribus is translated into 30 languages and has excellent end user support via mailing list and irc.

Changelog:

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus
1.3.3.13 and the first beta release of 1.3.5 from the development series.

-- 1.3.3.13 / stable release --

This release add the following:
* Several fixes and improvements to gradients and PDF export.
* More translation and documentation updates.
* Improvements to the Scripter to enable more features.

In addition to the release of a new stable version, the Scribus Documentation
Team has recently completed its task and published a 450-page printed Official
Scribus Manual for Scribus 1.3.3.x. The book is the most complete
documentation of Scribus's many features so far. It's available for orders
directly from the publisher (http://www.flesbooks.com/scribus1.3manual) or via
online bookstores.

-- The first 1.3.5 beta release --

Concurrently, the team is pleased to announce the long awaited first
beta of the 1.3.5 development branch which will eventually lead towards the
next stable 1.4.x release.

1.3.5 is a major release with many new features, a rewritten canvas
and text layout engine and a complete port of Scribus to QT4. Almost 1000 bugs
and feature requests were resolved during this release. Notably, performance
and stability are dramatically improved on MacOSX.

While we are not announcing a complete string freeze for the 1.3.5
release, we would encourage translators to begin the process as the time to
1.3.5 release is close with all roadmap issues now resolved. We expect a total
string freeze within a week.

With 1.3.5, the minimum Qt version supported is Qt 4.4.0, so
installing it on older linux distributions may be difficult. In
addition users should be warned that 1.3.3.x cannot open 1.3.5 files.
So users are recommended to only use backups or duplicate copies when
opening older version files with 1.3.5.

We now recommend all distributions package only Scribus 1.3.3.13. We
would only recommend packaging 1.3.5svn releases if they are marked as
experimental or development only.

 64-bit problems

by DrMartinus on: Apr 24 2008

Hi,
I was using the 64-bit version that was shipped with Mandriva PowerPack 2008.0. It worked perfectly, was very stable. Now I updated to Mnadriva PP 2008.1, and Scribus crashes every now and then without any reproducable reason. Always Signal #11. Also, I often do the following:
copy a text frame, then edit the text therein. However, when I save it, the text gets lost. So I have to enter the whole thing again. Now I just delete the text in the box (there's no way around), then save it, then write fresh.
I'm sure this is not meant, but it seems it doesn't work in any other way.

One feature I'd like to see

by thesupermadman on: May 2 2009

This is the most niggly thing I find about Microsoft Office and OpenOffice, that I would like to see here: could you make it so that, when you click-drag an object, could you set it to actually show the object being moved, rather then a dotted outline?

It's already much better then MS Office and OpenOffice, in that when you stop dragging, the object actually lands where you dragged it.

Good work so far - keep it up! My mother's still using Windows for Serif's PagePlus - it would be nice to be able to replace it. Thanks a bunch.

"That's self-contradictory; that would make it normal to be odd, and your being normal makes you odd compared to everyone else."
