nice work, man. KDE definately needs something like this, tough it might be done as a kcontrol component and/or a KIO slave like suse did... :D

Yes, a good way to integrate an application like this with the KDE is doing a super-Karamba widget, but I don't know anything about python and the super-karamba's widgets development.

If somebody wants to use my work to do a widget, I will feel so happy!

Thanks for the feedback!

Very nice work,
How about adding a tab 'Modules' which would show the list of modules loaded into the kernel, and ability do rmmod, insmod module from list?

Cheers

First, I'm very pleased by the big number of downloads in just a day.

On the other hand, I'm searching for more useful information, such as the proposed modules. If you have some ideas, please feel free to expose them!

 Bug report!

by servomac on: May 15 2006

Please, I need a lot of bug reporting, because I have been warned about some bad working of the Network Tab.

Maybe some of you can't see your current internet IP; surely it's because you haven't the lynx text-navigator.

Now I'm in an university lab with some linux-pcs that don't have the ifconfig command, what's where I look for the local network info.

On the other hand, the glxgears test isn't still working, because I don't know how to do it without dropping the extremely ugly test in the desktop and waiting for 6 seconds :P

Actually, I should insist on the fact that I need your suggestions in order to improve the KSystem View and turn it a really util app!

Ok, I've seen a bug :)
You use ifconfig in your script, but you don't check it's path. I suggest you check in the '/bin', '/sbin', '/usr/bin' and '/usr/sbin' directories and then (if still can't find it) you should report that KSystem Viewer can't find the command. In my Gentoo, ifconfig is in the /sbin directory.
I don't have lynx, because I use links or wget, so I can't see my public IP either.
I hope this will help you.
Cheers!

Ok, the wget inetIP detection is now implemented, thanks!

I will work in the correct ifconfig path detection when I have a moment!

Hi,
sorry, but Network module still doesn't work for me. You are using /etc/network/interfaces, which doesn't exist on my system. Another point is ifconfig. The localized output of ifconfig needn't to contain inet addr. On a german system, for example, it's inet Adresse.
So perhaps, it's better done with for running over ifconfig to find the devices and grep only for inet in line 101.

Just a suggestion
Nice app anyway.
Btw.
Did you know, that my 3000+ XP has more bogomips (4349), than your processor? Strange!?

Greetings

 Bug fixing in proces

by servomac on: May 17 2006

Thanks for the advice, now the typo is fixed! I will work in extracting the network devices from the ifconfig in order to obtain a better compatibily when I arrive at home! Thanks a lot!

The bongoMips can't be used to compare processor with different instruction sets. On the other hand, unfortunatelly I have a kernel compiled to a 32 bits architecture due to the better support of Debian/KUbuntu packages had when I installed the OS.

Maybe I should think in changing to a 64 bits compiled kernel to obtain a good performance!

Can you send me yours ifconfig? My mail is servomac@gmail.com

Unfortunatelly (or not :D) I don't have acces to any other distribution than Debian, and I need your configuration to improve the standard working of the app. Thanks!

 Hostname

by bitcrazy on: May 18 2006

Hi,
just a suggestion:
why don't you use uname -n for the hostname, coz /etc/hostname doesn't exist in all distros.
Perhaps the tab General should show up the informations of the kcontrol frontpage,
because:
System Info ds charon 2.6.16.16
isn't very informativ, isn't it.
And the progressbar Harddisk is irritating, coz it shows up the first partition, not the disk.
Btw. if you use
df | head -n 2 | tail -n 1 | awk {'print $5'} instead of
df | head -n 2 | tail -n 1 | awk {'print $2'}
you'll get the percentage directly.
More to come, so stay tuned ;-)

Greetings

m0nk
