Description:

KNetworkConf is a KDE Control Center Module to configure the Network
settings in a simple and intuitive way. It has the following
features:

* Configure installed network devices (you can't add new ones for now) in
basic and advanced mode (ie. don't auto configure broadcast and netmask
values).
* Autodetection of wireless interfaces.
* Configure the default gateway and gateway device.
* Configure host and domain names.
* Add/remove DNS servers (/etc/resolv.conf).
* Add/Remove known Hosts (/etc/hosts).

KNetworkConf works now in 13 different platforms:

* BlackPanther OS
* Conectiva Linux
* Debian Linux
* Fedora Linux
* FreeBSD
* Gentoo Linux
* Mandrake Linux
* OpenNA Linux
* Polish Linux Distribution
* Red Hat Linux
* Slackware Linux
* TurboLinux

KNetworkConf uses the Gnome System Tools (gst)
(http://www.gnome.org/projects/gst/) network backend to find out the network
values in a platform-independient manner. This backends are a bunch of perl
scripts that use XML files to communicate with different frontends.

NOTE:You don't need to have GNOME nor GST installed AT ALL to run
KNetworkConf. The network backend comes included.

Thank you! I can't believe it's taken this long for an app like this (not your fault, of course). I use SuSE so I guess I'd better be pestering them to add support for this, huh? If you happen to know of anyone running this with SuSE, let me know!!!

Sorry, I don't know anyone using SuSE, I'm a Mandrke user as most of my friends are, and the others use Debian.

I was able to configure, make, and install the software just fine on SuSE 9.2, KDE 3.3.2. The only problem now is that I can't figure out how to start the software. I looked around in the directories and on your website and couldn't find any information. Where is the default install for the files and what are they called? I'll let you know if it works once I can find the files...you could add SuSE 9.2 to the list then. Thanks.

It's a module for the KDE Control Center, so open the Control Center, go to Network and there you will find a "Network Settings" option.

I'm running SUSE 10.0 and I managed to compile and have the module registered with control centre by running configure with the argument to use /usr as the base directory. If I remember correctly it's: ./configure --prefix=/usr (read the INSTALL or README files or type ./configure --help). The bad news is that this module appears with a simple default SUSE file icon and it doesn't actually do anything other than display the control centre start page. clicking on it definately triggers some sort if an event but it doesnt actually do anything other than re-display the start page.

it is Yoper Linux based in one of the 15 already supported platforms? (Debian maybe?) if yes then it it's "unoffially" supported and I'll just have to add it to the sopported platforms list. If not you will have to patch the gst backend to add Yoper support or talk to gst people to do it for you, as I don't know perl to do it my self.

Post-install Error msg. Couldn't find the network detection scripts. I'm using Fecora Core 3. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
