Description:

Video player plugin for Konqueror using MPlayer, Xine, a NS Plugin loader or GStreamer. Like MPlayer, the Xine and GStreamer backend are out-of-process players. So it will not crash konqueror when Xine or GStreamer crashes.
Also a simple tool for video playing and recording. Supports many playlist formats, including PLS, M3U, ASX, XSPF, SMIL and podcast RSS/Atom, plays all links directly from the internet. Other specialties are DVD, CDROM, VCD and VDR support.

Changelog:

More porting to KDE4. Playlist generators for local media files, youtube, blip.tv and shoutcast.

Changes since version 0.11.1a
- Hopefully fix crash reported in bugs.kde.org:195464
- Implement animateColor
- Don't set plugins background color (bugs.kde.org:161282)
- Fix animation timer not killed
- Update hardcoded flash version to 10.0r22
- Fix audio previews with flash on www.7digital.de (bugs.kde.org:193843)
- Fix slider for scaling the video
Changes since version 0.11.1
- Add title to blip.tv information page
- Enable more text attributes for smilText
- Fix resizing generators information page making text area smaller
- Fix title on youtube information page started with a newline
Changes since version 0.11.0a
- Merged generators from Maemo port
- Enable clear history
- Also a summary if RSS has media tags
- Implement still missing tvscanner using it (FWIW)
- Support SMIL region backgroundOpacity and media type mediaBackgroundOpacity

 flash?

by mattepiu on: Oct 15 2007

"This release is for enabling flash support in Konqueror using either the swfdec-mozilla plugin or Adobe beta's."

Nice claim, but .... how???
Instructions at http://kmplayer.kde.org/news.php
are not sufficent, I added swf support
inside kmplayerrc but no joy at all.

P.S.: before someone suggest it,
I have it compiled with npp support
and selected mplayer integrated in konqueror, still I see just black box
with multimedia buttons below.
Do I need to enable also cairo support
when compiling?

Copied from kmplayer's handbook:

Everything must be configured by manually editing the ~/.kde/share/config/kmplayerrc like with configuring the backend per mimetype. This is an example how to let flash be played with the swfdec-mozilla plugin:
[application/x-shockwave-flash]
player=npp
plugin=/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libswfdecmozilla.so

You can play flash inside KMPlayer, actually you can even paste the special embed field for YouTube in the playlist XML.
In order to let KMPlayer play flash in HTML pages, you should make the KMPlayer plugin the service provider for the application/x-shockwave-flash mimetype in KDE's File Associations configuration dialog.

That's exactly what I did
(kmplayerrc modified and file
association changed with "integrated
mplayer").
Still it gives just gray boxes....

Oh, I even added cairo support.

And when you have a non working plugin loaded, do you see in the 'Play with' sub menu of the popdown 'Ice Ape' as selected player. If not, then your npp build went wrong.
Btw, cairo is not relevant here.
Another check is the libflashplayer.so you're using. It only works with the Adobe beta's, not with the released version (and only i32), see http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html
SwfDec should also work (>0.4).
If all above is correct, please paste the content of the text you see when selecting 'Console' from the popdown menu.

No Ice Ape, just mplayer or xine.

I configured it with:
"--enable-nspr --enable-npplayer",
and the only difference is that
I removed:
..../mimelnk/application/x-mplayer2.desktop
as I have it supplied with kdelibs... can be this???!? something missing??!?

You don't have to enable these, they are auto detected. And that fails for you. Look at the configure output what fails for you.
Do try 0.10.0a, because that doesn't need the nspr package. You do need to have the develop packages of libdbus-glib, gtk-2 and libdbus-qt installed.

It seems I found the issue:
using --without-gstreamer
I never get npp, removing this even
if I don't have gstreamer in my system
npp compiles.
Seems an error in the configure scripts (or the define, for example in
kmplayerprocess.cpp) to me....

 extra window!?

by binro on: Oct 19 2007

I have just upgraded to kmplayer 0.10 with mplayer 1.0_rc2 on my Gentoo x86_64 system. When a movie starts playing it appears in a separate window with just a frame. This does not happen with the xine engine. Same problem on a x86 system as well. Also seen some mentions of the same thing while searching for solutions. Any idea what is going on?

 flash ?

by stavallo on: Jan 23 2008

Hello,

is there any setting that allows Konqueror to play the video at:

http://tv.repubblica.it/home_page.php?playmode=player&cont_id=16484

I modified ~/.kde4/share/config/kmplayerrc as described and I am using kmplayer_part.

Many thanks

 Re: flash ?

by koos on: Jan 27 2008

This page declares some javascript functions from the flash plugin in khtml. I noticed a bug in the kmplayer plugin that this didn't get evaluated correctly.
However, after fixing this, khtml itself gives an exception.
Error: node : TypeError: Value undefined (result of expression thisMovie("flashplayerObj").enableControls) is not an object. Cannot be called.
The flash player calls 'callExternalInterface' and expect it returns a object 'thisMovie("flashplayerObj").returnURI(document.location.href);'. However since this object has a child embed html element with the same id (both object and embed have an id 'flashplayerObj', khtml returns a htmlcollection. So the call 'returnURI' fails.

That said, calling back in the plugin from javascript is not implemented yet. That also needs to be fixed for this site.

 Plugins on demand

by tmac on: Jan 27 2008

Hello, will the "Load plugins on demand" feature appear in a KDE3 version of kmplayer? It seems that the code was ported to KDE4 before the change was made, so I was unable to extract a subversion revision with this feature for KDE3. A KDE3 version with this feature would be great! (If I understand correctly, this will enable the user to choose when to start e.g. a flash plugin or an embedded video?)

kde3 branch isn't in a very good shape, I misjudged the multiple streams feature work and had to move on to kde4. Things that are broken are probably not or hardly used, like the tvscanner and ffserver but still, for a release not acceptable.
The OnDemand feature is however not that hard to backport to the branch. I do that the next weeks.

Done! But note some things are still broken. In addition to the things I mentioned, gstreamer backend is not ported to the new code yet. Xine, MPlayer, NPP and the recorders should work fine.

 Re: Re: Re: Plugins

Great, in fact I noticed it in the online SVN browser that many files had been updated. But I was not able to compile it from SVN. I didn't manage to find out how to generate configure.in, and ended up copying some files and directories from the Debian source package. After that I was able to start building, but it complained about missing moc-files. So I generated them manually for each *.h-file in src/. But after that I got a message: ../../src/kmplayerprocess.cpp:62:35: error: kmplayer_backend_stub.h: No such file or directory

But maybe I have not done some fundamental step that is neccesary to compile from SVN, or it is not meant to compile right now? So maybe it is best to wait for a tar.gz source package :-)

Run 'make -f admin/Makefile.common' before running configure.

Thanks, I fetched the admin directory also from SVN, the /KDE/3.5/kde-common/admin/ directory. However, I get the following error message when running the make command you specified (this is when trying with automake1.10):

You can't build it from svn without modifications to the Makefile.am/configure.in. Better take src tar ball of kmplayer-0.10.xx, copy the files and run 'make -f admin/Makefile.common' from there (there is already an admin directory in it.
